What is eps?

eps — eps-Überweisung — is the Austrian banking sector’s shared online payment standard. It is not a card and not a wallet: the customer is sent to their own bank, where the transfer to you is already filled in, and all they do is log in and approve it. Austrian banks built it together, which is why it works the same at every one of them.

It sits deeper in Austrian life than a payment method usually does. Around 15 to 18 percent of Austrian online payments run through it, more than eight in ten Austrian webshops accept it, and it is the method the Austrian government uses for its own e-government services. An Austrian shopper who does not see it will notice.

For merchants the appeal is what a bank transfer does not carry. The money moves out of the customer’s own account after they authenticate with their bank, so there is no card scheme behind it and no chargeback procedure to defend. Everything is in euros on both sides, so there is nothing to convert either.

Why eps, and why through Checky Pro

The top row is the method itself; the bottom row is what our platform adds on top of it.

The Austrian standard

Built by the Austrian banks together, accepted by more than eight in ten Austrian webshops, and used by the government for its own services.

Nothing to dispute

A completed transfer is final. No chargeback procedure, no evidence to assemble, no dispute fee.

Euro in, euro out

Austrian customers pay in euros and you settle in euros. No conversion, no FX line on the invoice.

One balance across markets

Austrian payments land in the same balance and payout schedule as everything else. One reconciliation, not one per country.

Switched on per market

Show eps to Austrian shoppers and nothing changes for everyone else — the checkout follows the customer.

Judged on your store

We look at what you actually sell and how you fulfil it, not at a risk score.

How an eps payment works

From click to balance — what your customer sees, and what happens behind it.

  1. 1

    Picks eps at checkout

One click in your checkout — no card number, no account to create.

  2. 2

    Chooses their bank

The eps bank selector shows the amount and your order number, and the customer picks their own bank.

  3. 3

    Logs in to online banking

They land in their own bank, where the transfer to you is already filled in.

  4. 4

    Confirms with their bank

Strong customer authentication — usually an SMS code or the bank’s own app. Which one depends on the bank.

  5. 5

    Back in your store, confirmed

Your store is notified immediately and the order can go to fulfilment.

  6. 6

    Settled to your balance

Added to your Checky Pro balance and paid out in 3–7 business days.

What does an eps payment cost?

For a company in the EU: 2,95% plus € 0,25 per transaction, with no authorization fee and no currency conversion, because eps is paid in euros. Rates differ per region, and outside the EU the euros are converted into your payout currency — switch the region above the pricing table on this page to see yours.

Can an eps payment be charged back?

No. It is a bank transfer the customer authorised with their own bank, so there is no chargeback procedure and no dispute fee. A refund is something you issue yourself.

Can I use eps for subscriptions?

The eps payment itself is a one-off, but a SEPA Direct Debit mandate can be set up off the back of it, which is how recurring billing is usually handled in Austria.

Does it work for German customers too?

eps is an Austrian method. German shoppers in your checkout will use cards, wallets or their own local methods instead.

Can I offer eps as a sole proprietorship?

Yes. Your company form no longer decides which payment methods you can offer: a sole proprietorship gets the same methods as an incorporated company. What counts is where your business is registered — the “Available for” row above shows the regions that can offer eps, and the payment methods page has the full coverage.
