What is Swish?
Swish is a real-time payment app built and run by Sweden’s own banks. A payment is tied to a phone number, authorised with BankID — the national digital identity nearly every Swedish adult already uses for tax returns and bank logins — and clears between accounts within seconds. It is not a card, not a wallet holding a balance, and not a scheme with an issuer in the middle: it is a bank transfer that happens while the customer watches.
Sweden is also about as close to cashless as a country gets, and Swish is what filled the gap. It started as a way to split a dinner bill and became the default for market stalls, sports clubs, second-hand sales and, increasingly, online checkouts. A Swedish shopper who sees only card fields is being asked to use their backup method.
Two consequences for merchants. Because the payment settles in real time out of the customer’s own account after a BankID signature, there is no chargeback mechanism to worry about — the risk profile is closer to a bank transfer than to a card. And because Swish is SEK-only, selling into Sweden means taking a currency you probably do not settle in; we will convert it and show you what the conversion cost.

Why Swish, and why through Checky Pro
The top row is the method itself; the bottom row is what our platform adds on top of it.
The Swedish default
Sweden barely uses cash, and Swish is what replaced it. Offering only cards asks Swedish shoppers to fall back on their second choice.
Signed with BankID
Every payment is authorised with the national digital identity the customer already uses for their bank and their taxes. Fraud disputes are close to non-existent.
Cleared in real time
The money leaves the customer’s account while they are still on your confirmation page — you are not waiting on a pending status to ship.
Tell us and it counts
We have requested Swish for companies in the EU. Every merchant on the waitlist helps us prioritise it — and you hear the moment it goes live.
One balance, two currencies
Swedish payments will land in the same balance and the same payout schedule as your euro ones. One reconciliation, not two.
Switched on per market
Once Swish is live, you show it to Swedish shoppers and nothing changes for everyone else — the checkout follows the customer.

What does a Swish payment cost?
The rate is published when Swish goes live. There will be no authorization fee; because Swish is SEK-only, the payment is converted into your payout currency.
In which currency am I paid out?
Your own. Customers always pay in Swedish kronor; we will convert to your settlement currency and it lands in the same balance as the rest of your payments.
Can a Swish payment be charged back?
No. Swish is a real-time bank transfer signed with BankID, so there is no chargeback mechanism and no dispute fee. A refund is something you issue yourself, not something a scheme reverses.
Do my customers need anything special?
Swish is tied to a Swedish phone number and BankID, so it is for customers who bank in Sweden. Everyone else in your checkout keeps paying by card or wallet.
When can I switch it on?
We have requested Swish for companies registered in the EU and cannot promise a date yet. Join the waitlist and we will tell you as soon as it is live.
